The Boarder Police rewrote history after it survived its first year of inception today.

Initially beginning on 3rd July a year ago, many gathered to celebrate their first year of inception. The celebration was attended by many at the CAAFI grounds in Namaka, Nadi.

The Chief Guest for the day was Minister for Defense, the Honorable Ratu Epeli Ganilau. In his speech, the minister reminded all present how far the border police have come over the past 12 months.

“The Border police unit was initially formed to look after the affairs of our various borders or point of entry around the country”, said Ratu Epeli.

He later thanked all those present and those that were not physically present to see this auspicious day. The Boarder unit has its headquarters in Nadi while other various units are based around the country.

Also present at the celebration were various stakeholders including the chief executive officer of Civil Aviation Authority of Fiji Islands (CAAFI), Air Pacific Fiji Limited executives, Town and City Administrators from Sigatoka to Lautoka, Mr. Aisea Tuidraki and also members of the friendly community.

Members of the Fiji Police Force gathered in numbers as a sign of support towards the occasion. This included the Commissioner of Police, Commodore Esala Teleni, Director of Operations SSP Marika Yalimaiwai, RPC/W, ROO/W, Sector Commanders and also members of the media.

Fiji Police Band, Dog Unit and Ready Action Unit (West) put on a display after the formal part of the celebration, as there was quite a turn out from the general public.

The Defence Minister was also the Minister that opened the same unit a year ago.
