The Fiji Police is concerned with the recent spike of fire cases reported over the past few days.

The latest was recorded this morning at about 0230hrs, at Sukanaivalu Road, Nabua whereby a three bedroom house made of corrugated iron and timber owned by a 34 year old was completely destroyed.

The fire is believed to have started from a lit mosquito coil. While this is still to be ascertained as investigations continue, we are once again pleading with everyone to be cautious about potential fire hazards in their homes.

Proper containment of such materials is important as anything can happen at night especially when we are asleep. This cannot be stressed enough and it is vital that people adopt a change of mindset about fire safety practices if we are to prevent further loss of life and property.

According to our statistics we have recorded 150 fire cases to date and while this is a reduction of 37 compared to the same period last year, the fact remains that we need to be more serious about fire safety.
