International History

Founded by Detective Gary McAleese of Albaqueque, New Mexico in August, 1976 to solve a murder/Robbery at a local gas bar.

National History

The Program was initiated by former Police Commissioner Isikia Savua in 1997 as he convinced prominent business and media executives as Board of Directors. On the 20th June 1997, Crime Stoppers Southern was officially launched by the Former Prime Minister Mr. Sitiveni Rabuka. On the 2nd April 1998, Crime Stoppers Western was officially launched in Lautoka by the late Minister for Justice Mr. Etuate Tavaiqia.And on the 20th July 2001, Crime Stoppers Northern was officially launched at Subrail Park, Labasa.

How does Crime Stoppers Function

  • Information received through toll free number 919; txt messages through 919 and emails on This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
  • All calls, txt messages or emails received through 919 are logged (Register) and coded
  • Gather Information on Offence Committed/yet to be committed
  • Appeal to the general Public for wanted people, missing links, escapees, warrantees, etc through advertisements and awareness programmes on Radio and TV.
  • Constructive Information is disseminated to relevant Units i.e. Crime, Traffic, CID, NIB, UB, etc.
  • Positive feedbacks are recommended for Reward to the National Board by the National Coordinator
  • Cheques are issued by the National Board
  • Cheques are claimed by informants at Coordinators offices
  • Oversee and assist Scholastic Crime Stoppers Program as an extra Curriculum activity in Secondary Schools.
