Divisional Police Commander Southern Senior Superintendent Pariniappa Gounder said that the force was mindful of the burglaries or aggravated robberies that could happen when thousands left their homes to enjoy the festivities at Albert Park.
SSP Gounder said the leave of all staff had been cancelled to ensure there is enough manpower to carry out security operations.
"We are stepping up on our operations because of several events that will be taking place like the Tadra Kahani, Deans Final and the Hibiscus Festival," he said.
"We want the public to enjoy the festivals and interact freely with people from other communities and support the festival by helping raise funds for worthy causes."
The key strategies:
· Improved visibility
"We are committed to the security of the public, and there are about 334,000 people will have to look after," he said.
"We are also relying on our network of police friends (Pol Friend) and there is about 300 in all that are linked up to the 26 police posts and 11 police stations," SSP Gounder.
"They are our ears and eyes on the ground.
"So it's a community police participatory approach."
