The Garden Island of Taveuni braces itself for the upcoming first ever Blue Light Programme to be held at Bucalevu Secondary School on the Island.

The Blue Light Programme is held annually by the Community Policing Department in the Fiji Police Force in a bid to maintain a closer link with secondary school students who are mostly in their adolescent stage of life at this tier of the Education curriculum.

Community policing officer at the Taveuni Police Station, Special Inspector Joseva Ganilau said that the possibility of including Rabi High School to the programme is still being planned.

The programme which was initially introduced into the North for Vanualevu at Savusavu Secondary School will this year be held on Taveuni too for the first time ever. IP Ganilau said that the Secondary schools in Taveuni are really looking forward to the programme come the second end term of school breaks and that school managements on the island have been very receptive of the idea.

Children from various schools are often selected to attend the Blue Light camp and this selected few are encouraged during the camp to act as contact points and to establish their own crime free groups in their respective schools.
