The Southern Region Community Policing Unit has been very busy in the past 3-weeks.

In conjunction with Station Officer Valelevu, Nabua, and Raiwaqa, they have organized and facilitated 17 workshops within Nasinu, Raiwaqa and Nabua communities from 22nd June to 9th of July 2010.

These workshops were made possible through the integration and support of resource persons from UNDP-NICE Project staff, Yellow Ribbon Programme, Ministry of Youths and Sports, and Community Policing.

The Community Policing has taken another step into their awareness strategy by reaching out to the public through media.

They will be on air from Monday to Friday early morning with the Fiji Broadcasting Commission FM station.

The main awareness topics that will be addressed on air are the Safety of Children, Law and You, and Police in Focus.

Community Policing media personnel, Mr. Jokatama Qio, said the focus will be on the crime free awareness program.

"This is also to inform the public what is happening in the organization, what has happened and what is coming up," Mr Qio said.

A large number of police officers attended organized by the Community Policing at the JJ’s on The Park last week.

The Community Policing Directorate wishes to congratulate the Commissioner of Police, Commodore Esala Teleni on the achievement of yet another milestone on the launching of a new and customized website for the Fiji Police.

On 21/5/09 the Ahmadiyya Muslim Primary School in Narere organized a Children’s Day and Crime Prevention Day at the school grounds. The Police in the Nasinu District was also involve in this activity. The school consist about 500 students with 15 teachers.

Though the school is managed by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamat of Fiji, children of all races attend this school. Children from each church denomination were given a chance to recite their religious prayer .The Head Girl of the School Ms Patricia also spoke on crime prevention.” Its not only their effort ,its ours too The community, the different races it’s everyone’s effort” she said. The Chief Guest of the event was Dr .Vijay Nair emphasized that the police cannot work alone to fight crime. It is everyone’s responsibility .

Teaches were also reminded of their roles in the bringing up of a child so that he /she does not involve themselves in illegal activities

Officers from the Juvenile Bureau and the Crime Stoppers visited two schools this morning with an objective of developing students’ knowledge in life skills education.

Nasinu Sangam Primary School and Nakasi Muslim Primary School were part of the presentation by three officers on certain topics like definition of crime and law, the disadvantages of committing a crime, sexual offences and safety tips.
Woman Acting Corporal 2742 Romiliniani Ducia indicated that the response from the schools were positive.

“The Head teachers of the schools were appreciative of the topics covered and the presence of the police officers in uniform dishing out advices to their students,” Ducia said.
